Personal - CGI Still Life

Absinthe.

_____ 2nd of the series 'Whiskey, Flower and Butterfly'

'Vaity of vanities, saith the Preacher, Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.'
- Bible's old Testament in Ecclesiastes 12:8

Vanitas is a genre of art which uses symbolism to show the transience of life, the futility of pleasure, and the certainty of death. The paintings contains several symbolics that remind us of the finiteness of life (flowers, skeletons, insects, etc.) and the futility of worldly pleasures (instruments, wine, books, etc.)

I chose whiskey as the main iconic object for my Vanitas still life.
For each brand of whiskey, I created a mood that I thought would be appropriate.
Then chose the secondary objects of flowers and butterflies to match the mood.

I hope you enjoy.

Motion

Absinthe is known for its addictive and harmful properties.
This characteristic has been cited as a reason for the deaths of several artists,
including Vincent van Gogh, and Edgar Ellen Poe.

Due to its long history, there have been many different designs of Absinthe.
It's hard to show them all, so I decided to show only the features of Absinthe without the bottle design.
The most famous way to drink Absinthe is to dissolve sugar in a spoon.
Althought setting the sugar on fire is not a traditional method,
it is a popular image, and I felt it provided the most visual splendor.

I added a wilted blue rose and a morpho butterfly to add to the dreamy feel of the image.

Behind The Scene

Reference _____

The overall color and mood was inspired by Vincent van Gogh's "Café Terrace at Night"

I used sugar fire, morpho butterflies and blue roses to reflect the blue,
used yellow(withered) and green(absinthe, lime, etc) objects to represent the color of the light in the painting.
I also set up a light to represent the darkness of the night time in the painting.

Making _____

I experimented with a variety of modeling, texturing, and lighting throughout this series of projects.
If there's a better way to say it, please don't hesitate to give me feedback.

Absinthe glass with flaming sugar _____

I modeled a classical style absinthe glass and absinthe spoon.
I tried to capture the details of the sugar grains and the dirty glass.
(It's a shame I couldn't use intact sugar cubes in the scene.)
The fire created with Pyro required multiple simulation tests
to ensure a small but powerful visual representation.

Absinthe Fountain _____

The most famous form is the angel sculpture used as a pedestal,
but I felt that the more complex the form, the more attention it would draw,
so I chose a simple form to draw attention to the absinthe glass.

Velvet _____

I arranged it by referring to the material tutorial of YouTube New Plastic.

Skull _____

Originally, it had a smooth-shaped object.
So I created a crack and a dirty feeling with the material.

Spider Map _____

Many objects were already too heavy, so the spider web was expressed with image source.
